Dibru-Saikhowa National Park

Considered as one of the 19 biodiversity hotspots in the world, Dibru-Saikhowa National Park and bio-sphere reserve consists of semi-wet evergreen forests, tropical moist deciduous forest, bamboo, cane and grasslands. Situated in the flood plains of Brahmaputra this National Park is safe haven for many extremely rare and endangered species of wildlife. Still in its untouched and tranquil form, this Park is one of the amazing National Parks in Assam. Primarily meant for the conservation of White-Winged Wood Duck, this park is also famous for its bright coloured Feral Horses which are its prime attraction. Covering around 425 sq. kms, this National Park is situated 50 kms away from the Dibrugarh airport and 18 km from Tinsukia, the commercial capital of Assam.

Things to do

Adore this beautiful National Park by counting birds on a boat safari where you can spot water buffaloes soaking in the sun and sight the Gangetic River Dolphin. People can also explore the jungle by trekking. The jungle is quiet far away from the chaos of the city. You can only hear the rustle of dry leaves beneath your feet while trekking. The songs of the birds as you travel forward provide a background score.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Dibru-Saikhowa National Park is between November-April. During this period one can enjoy watching migratory birds which are the main attraction of the park.

How to reach

The National Park is about 50 kilometres from Dibrugarh Mohanbari Airport. Taxis are easily accessible at the airport. Tinsukia Railway Station is about 18 kilometres away from Dibru-Saikhowa. Tinsukia and Dibrugarh are well connected by luxury bus services from Guwahati.

Current weather

The climate is tropical where the summers are hot and wet whereas winters are cold and dry. The annual rainfall goes up to 3800 mm with maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius and minimum of 7 degree Celsius.
