Located in North Guwahati, Rudreswar Devalaya stands as a remarkable symbol of Assam’s Ahom history and architectural brilliance. This historic temple marks the very site where Swargadeo Rudra Singha (Sukhrungphaa), one of the most visionary and ambitious Ahom kings (reign: 1696–1714)—breathed his last. To honour his father, King Pramatta Singha commissioned the construction of the temple in 1749 CE, memorialising the Ahom monarch’s legacy and leadership. The temple is a fine example style of Ahom-Mughal architecture. The design of the temples imitates a Mughal mausoleum. The temple has underground chambers, presumed to be used as store houses. The entrance to these chambers is from the front of the temple. The main sanctum sanctorum or the Manikut is situated just above these chambers.
