Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park, home to the great Indian one-horned rhinoceros is one of the most important wildlife tourist attractions in Northeast India. The park also holds the record of having the highest density of Royal Bengal Tiger in the world, largest population of asiatic wild buffalo, last surviving population of eastern swamp deer and tiger. Spreading over 858.98 sq. km with its various annexure with the river Brahmaputra flowing beside it throughout its entirety, the park offers a splendid scenic sight, making it a heaven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. Days Required to Cover

To explore the rolling expanses of wild grasslands with all its animals it usually requires two-three days to cover the four main ranges of Kaziranga National Park. (Central range-Mihimukh, Western Range-Bagori, Eastern Range-Agoratoli and Burapahar range).

Things to do

From elephant rides to jeep safaris, Kaziranga provides a variety of activities which assures an unforgettable view of its spectacular wildlife. The Central and Western Range offer elephant safaris and all the four main ranges provide Jeep Safaris. As there are a limited number of seats available for the Elephant Safari, tourists are advised to make a reservation in advance. Jeep Safari is easily accessible, thus no advance reservation is necessary. In addition to the safaris, visiting a tea garden could be an option. This would allow visitors to see how tea is grown and manufactured, and experience its flavour. Other options include visiting the archaeological site at Numaligarh, a serene waterfall in the nearby Karbi hills at Kakochang, Orchid Park, and visiting the nearby villages could be a great escape to witness the unparalleled beauty of this jungle. One can also enjoy the boat safari at Bhomoraguri where sighting of the endangered Ganges river dolphin is a certainty. Adventurers can go trekking in the adjacent Karbi Hills, where the natural environment is pristine and untouched, and they can also enjoy ethnic Karbi cuisine at another serene region.

Famous for

Kaziranga is famous for its one-horned rhinoceros. It is also called the “Land of Big Five- Rhinoceros or unicorn”, Tiger, Asiatic Buffalo, Elephant and the Eastern Swamp Deer.

How to reach

Kaziranga is 217 kilometres by road from Guwahati and 95 kilometres from Jorhat, the nearest airport. The nearest railhead is Jakhalabandha, which is 50 kilometres from Kohora, Kaziranga's centre stoppage point. Regular luxury bus services from Guwahati are provided by both the Assam State Transport Corporation and private operators. Taxi services from Guwahati are also available at moderate rates.

Current weather

Kaziranga has a subtropical monsoon climate with an average annual rainfall of 1320mm and temperature ranging from 15 degree minimum Celsius during winter to 38 degree Celsius in summer.
