Destinations | Dist. Wise | Darrang

Darrang district was carved out of Mangaldai in 1983. Covering an area of 3481 sq kms, the district headquarters is Mangaldoi.
The name Darrang is believed to have been derived from the Bodo word Dourang, which means 'Lilabhumi' (payground of the Gods) while some believe that the word Darrang came from Dawrang which means gate, as there was direct entry to Bhutan and from there to Nepal, China etc. Gradually this came to be known as Darrang.
